There are many in the skateboarding world who view skating as a religion that must be practiced to exacting and specific standards. You must conform and ride certain types of terrain, perform specific tricks, avoid mixing styles, and adhere to a particular appearance. However, once in a while, a skater like Andy emerges, someone who does not fit into this rigid mold. He is such an outsider that he doesn't even conform to skateboarding itself. He stands apart because he does not follow its false mandates. What Andy embodies is the true essence of what a skateboarder should be. He does not conform nor seek acceptance from those who do, and in doing so, he embraces the grief and exclusion that comes with being a genuine outsider.
