The Choucas hip belt from Blue Ice should be known to all mountaineers who are focused on ultra-light gear. As an uncompromisingly minimalist harness, it weighs just 148 grams – almost as light as it gets. However, it is important to understand that this is explicitly a model designed for ski and high-altitude trekkers, where every gram counts. Thoughtfully designed, the leg loops can be opened via quick-release buckles, making it easy to put on even with crampons. Four flexible material loops and two attachment points for ice screw holders complete the package. Thus, the Choucas proves its worth in the eternal ice, especially for purists and as an ultra-light reserve harness, rather than for comfort-seeking alpine climbers.
