The digital voltage sensing relay (DVSR) allows for charging a second battery bank from any individual charging source. When the voltage of the charged bank rises sufficiently, the second battery bank can be charged. During charging stops and voltage drops, the DVSR automatically disconnects the battery banks, ensuring that the starter batteries are fully charged. The digital circuitry offers superior reliability and extremely low power consumption. Digital enhancements have introduced a remote sensing circuit that allows for an optional connection from the ignition switch, providing the same functionality as a single-sense VSR and zero power consumption when the engine is off. Another advantage is a zero state for power indication when the remote sensing circuit is used with an equipped storage mode switch (switch in the open position). Two or more independent battery banks can be operated from a charging source such as an alternator or battery charger.
