In my opinion, this input (filter present or not) is only used with the fully automatic machine to increase or cancel the time interval of the descaling process. So it should also work without specifying filter present or not above.

Good morning Andrea, I have an ECAM 23.420.SB with which this filter was included as a one-off accessory, since when I have been buying it. According to the specification, the filter is intended for 2 months. If the machine is not used for longer, it should be replaced after 3 weeks.
