The machine in question is the Ascaso Steel Duo PID. ### Version This machine is one of the newer models from Ascaso, available since 2018. It is specifically the revised version, often referred to as the Ascaso Steel Duo PID 2022, although the exact designation "2022" is not mentioned in all sources. ### Cup heating Yes, the Ascaso Steel Duo PID has a cup heating function. This function is realised by a stainless steel grid with additional electric heating for the cup tray, which ensures that the cups are brought to the optimum temperature before the espresso is brewed.

Unfortunately, I am not aware of any instructions. If I remember correctly, I opened the machine at the time and it was then self-explanatory where the heater was connected and which connection had to be unplugged. However, this was several years ago. My recommendation is to simply have a look. Solving this via an additional switch is certainly more complicated.

The machine does not contain a water filter. The water hardness in Switzerland varies greatly depending on the location. In Zurich I use a Brita, which reduces the water hardness from approx. dH 7-8 to an ideal approx. dH 3. In the chalet in the mountains we have a spring water supply from the granite rock and this is already < dH 3 without filtration!

We try to offer as wide a range as possible, but it is not always possible for us to include certain products. This can have various reasons. However, we are happy for you that you were able to find your desired product elsewhere.

In my experience, this is not possible. On the one hand, you cannot draw coffee/espresso and hot water at the same time because it is the same thermoblock (coffee/espresso and steam at the same time). On the other hand, the hot water supply is rather slow and the temperature drops after 100-150 ml. That's why I still usually boil water to preheat cups and extend the coffee/espresso.

Define not so susceptible to limescale😅 with my Ascaso, the OPV broke relatively quickly (clogged) despite filtered water. Version November 2020 theoretically with the improved OPV, but maybe I just had a unit that came from a mothballed factory.

I measure approx. 9cm from the cup tray to the spout of the filter holder supplied. I can't fit a milk jug with a height of 11 cm and a diameter of 7.5 cm underneath. With a portafilter without a spout, it would probably be close. Or alternatively, draw the coffee / espresso into a (preheated) smaller pot and then empty it into the large cup.

This is the version with the PID. Regarding the 5-year warranty, I have made a report so that this can be looked at and adjusted if necessary.
