Alessi Espresso Maker PULCINA Platinum

"Pulcina" has emerged from the creative mind of architect Michele De Lucchi and is an espresso maker for true coffee lovers. The revolutionary design combines a technology developed by illycaffè based on studies of heat flow dynamics with the project experience of Alessi. "Pulcina" is the result of a long search: the participants aimed to discover how to optimize the shape of the espresso maker to enhance and highlight the organoleptic properties of espresso.

An analysis was conducted to understand what happens inside an espresso maker. Consequently, Illy was able to determine the ideal shape of the boiler – the lower part of the pot where the water boils – for perfect espresso. Thanks to the special design of the boiler's interior, Pulcina interrupts the coffee flow at just the right moment. This avoids the volcanic phase – the final moment of extraction that leaves a burnt, bitter aftertaste. Only the best of the coffee makes it into the cup, allowing its rich, rounded aroma to be fully enjoyed.

The spout is relatively pronounced. Its typical V-shape resembles the beak of a chick (it. pulcino). It is designed so precisely that it allows for drip-free pouring. Pulcina is practical, functional, and requires no special knowledge. The coffee is prepared just like in traditional espresso makers.
