Cats are very clean and clean-loving animals that need a clean and pleasant-smelling place to do their business. Since they like to hunt and are often among the hunted in the wild, they also want to feel safe when going to the toilet. Therefore, it is important to provide them with a litter tray of the right size and in the right place. In principle, there should be one more litter tray available than there are cats in the household. If space allows, you should provide the cat with two different toilets, as he prefers to do his big and his little business in different places.

The right size
The ideal litter tray cannot be big enough, but it should be at least one and a half times as long as the cat's body so that it can turn and stretch easily. It should also have enough space for her to scratch. If the litter box is too small, she will quickly look for another place to do her business.

The right place for the litter tray
Like humans, cats value their privacy. The litter tray should therefore be placed in a quiet place, but not in the farthest corner, but in a bright place that can be reached without obstacles. For hygienic reasons, the litter tray should not be too close to the food bowl or sleeping area, but ideally spatially separated from them.

Bowl, bonnet or corner litter tray
The open bowl litter tray is inexpensive and suitable for cats who want to keep an eye on their surroundings while going to the toilet. However, when burying, cat litter may end up on the floor outside the litter tray. It is therefore advisable to buy open cat toilets with a high rim so that the litter is not spread all over the floor.
Closed litter trays have the advantage that they bind unpleasant odours and distribute less in the room. They also ensure that the litter stays in the toilet when it is scratched. However, the cat with its sensitive nose may notice an unpleasant smell inside more quickly and therefore avoid the toilet.
Corner toilets can be open or closed and their shape fits perfectly into the corners of the home. This allows them to be placed in the flat in a space-saving way.
