For the first connection, the mobile phone must be held close (max. 1 metre) to the lamp so that the BT 'pairing' works.

You have to make sure that you have the right app. There are apps for the Bridge and the "Hue BT* in the Appstore, the latter you should have. Then you should activate Bluetooth on the mobile phone and the lamp must be switched on. Then start the app, which should work (it does for me with a Hue BT bulb).

I don't have any experience... buy a bridge, then you have full control over all your Hue products😉.
