A masterpiece from 1926: the S 33 and S 34. These chairs are the first cantilever chairs in furniture history. They were first used in 1927 in the Weissenhof Estate in Stuttgart. Starting in 1925, Mart Stam experimented with gas pipes, which he connected with flanges, and developed the principle of cantilevered chairs that no longer rested on four legs. This created a construction principle that, with its formal restraint, became an important building block in the history of modern furniture design. At the beginning, Stam was not focused on the springy effect of the bent steel tube, but rather on the clear form that fit perfectly into the modern buildings of that time.
