Product details
Design LED table lamp "Banana Louie" 30 x 21 cm. These light sculptures in the shape of freshly peeled bananas were designed by the Belgian artists of Studio Job and make a clear reference to the American Pop Art movement. The "Banana" lamps were originally designed as a limited edition for the "Art Light" exhibition at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Paris. Seletti has now decided to launch this crazy and unconventional lamp collection in series by replacing the bronze material originally used with gold-coloured synthetic resin.
The banana-shaped diffuser is made of opal glass. The banana is the most popular fruit in the world. The "Banana" lamp makes reference to other well-known cult objects of Pop Art, such as Campbell soup cans, dollar notes, and Coca-Cola bottles. The very realistic lamps in the form of peeled bananas are based on Andy Warhol's approach: to depict something that you see every day and that everyone can recognize in a positive way, and to depict objects in their simplest and most easily recognizable form. In this way, the most ordinary everyday objects, such as a simple banana, can become an art object just by being transferred onto a canvas or into another art form.
Studio Job includes the two free spirits Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel, both known for their rebellious and non-conformist way of creating their own world. The Flemish couple's employees move somewhere between industry and applied art. They realize projects, often in limited editions, that combine skilled craftsmanship with an extremely expressive and symbolic avant-garde visual language.
