Who Designed the Bookshelf?

The design of this piece of furniture is credited to Israeli designer Ron Arad. The son of a painter and a photographer, he spent his youth in Tel Aviv and later studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. After completing his studies, Ron Arad soon began designing unconventional furniture. However, it wasn't until 1981 that he opened his own design studio in London with Caroline Thorman. He gained international attention when he presented a machine that compressed chairs into cubes for the tenth anniversary of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. Ron Arad began working on the mass production of furniture in the late 1980s. His pieces are often notable for being made from a single mold, giving them a remarkably light appearance.
