Iittala Ruutu Vase

Ruutu Vase. The Finnish brand iittala traditionally collaborates with Scandinavian product designers, but occasionally, they also welcome a Central or Southern European through the door. This was the case with the Parisian brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec: at first glance, the shape of the vases may not seem spectacular, but it truly is. Instead of cubes, the Bouroullecs – as the Finnish name suggests – create a diamond shape. The typical cube is pressed into a rhombus or diamond shape. Additionally, each flower vase is not produced by machine but is individually mouth-blown into a steel mold and hand-finished for a special sheen on the surfaces. This method of production requires highly skilled craftsmen and takes about 24 hours per flower vase. Only this meticulous care in iittala's production brings to life the particularly intense and profound color world created by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, developing a magical, flowing note with the help of incoming light.
