Iittala Ruutu Vase

Ruutu Vase. The Finnish brand iittala has always been a hub for Scandinavian product designers, but occasionally, they also welcome a Central or Southern European through the door. This was the case with the Parisian brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec: At first glance, the shape of the vases may not seem spectacular. However, it is indeed remarkable: instead of creating a rectangular form, the Bouroullecs – as the Finnish name suggests – have designed a diamond shape, or in other words, the typical rectangle has been pressed into a rhombus or lozenge. Additionally, each flower vase is not produced by machine, but rather individually mouth-blown into a steel mold and hand-finished for a special surface shine: This method of production requires highly skilled artisans and takes about 24 hours per flower vase! Only this meticulousness in iittala's production brings to life the particularly intense and profound color world of the Ruutu Vase, allowing it to develop a magical flowing quality with the help of incoming light.
