Nagasaki Bar Stool by Gubi
Gubi's three-legged Nagasaki Bar Stool is Mathieu Matégot's most famous design and is considered his most significant work. In keeping with this French design classic, Matégot designed the bar stool based on the same principles. Born in Hungary, Mathieu Matégot moved to France in the early 1930s. After World War II, he opened his own studio in Paris and created many pieces of furniture and lamps. Matégot often uses perforated metal in his works, which distinguishes his designs. He deliberately employs the play of shadows created by perforated metals as a design feature.

The Hungarian designer Mathieu Matégot, who primarily worked in France, created his most famous piece of furniture, the Nagasaki chair, in 1954. Its elegant form language conveys a lightness reminiscent of Japanese characters. It is also characterized by the innovative use of steel as a material. While the frame is made of solid steel tubing, the seat shell is crafted from flexible perforated sheet metal, which Matégot can manipulate like fabric. The Nagasaki Bar Stool is perfect for use at a bar or kitchen counter.
