Cobra Table Lamp by Gubi

The Cobra Table Lamp by Greta Grossman is an American lighting classic produced by Gubi. Its designs have been awarded the Good Design Award by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The name Cobra comes from the flexible, tubular structure of the lamp, which can be rotated in any direction, creating a snake-like shadow effect. Greta Magnusson Grossman was born in Sweden and won her first furniture design award in the 1930s. Her nativity scene design for Swedish Princess Birgitta garnered significant attention. In 1940, she emigrated to the United States with her husband, musician Billy Grossman, and began her career in Los Angeles, where she worked as both a designer and an architect.

Greta M. Grossman - Cobra Table Lamp

The Cobra Table Lamp was designed by Greta Grossman in 1950 and won the Good Design Award that same year. The neck of the lamp can be freely rotated in all directions, which earned it the name Cobra. The Danish company Gubi produces the Cobra Table Lamp based on the original design by Greta Magnusson Grossman. In addition to desk lamps, Cobra lights are available in various colors and larger vertical versions.
