Does the cable also work if the iPad is connected to USB-C and the TV to HDMI?
The long answer:
The USB-C connector on most iPads (not Air) can output a Displayport signal.
There is an active component (chip) in this cable that converts the Displayport signal into an HDMI signal.
Therefore it works.
