This cable should be seen as a combination of two separate cables: HDMI - DVI 3.5 mm Jack - 3.5 mm Jack This means that you won't get sound through the speaker, as the plug from the HDMI part would also have to be plugged into a 3.5mm slot on the Apple TV, which doesn't have one. There is no conversion of the digital signal from the HDMI part to an analogue signal for the speaker socket.

Sali ToniMichi27 First of all: HDMI can transmit video plus audio signals, whereas DVI can only transmit video signals. You might therefore think that with this cable you only have to plug in the audio jack plug on the DVI side - but this is not the case: in order to be able to transmit audio with this cable, the jack plugs at both ends must be plugged into the corresponding audio sockets of the devices to be connected. In my case, the situation looks like this: I connect a Raspberry 3+ (cable on the HDMI side in the HDMI socket of the Raspi and jack plug on this cable end in audio socket of the Raspi) with an AOC monitor that has built-in speakers (cable on the DVI-D side in the DVI-D socket of the monitor and jack plug on this cable end in audio socket of the monitor). Hope this helps.
