Hello Patrick
It is practically impossible to install an SSD on your own, as you have to remove the entire display. Therefore, if you want an SSD, I recommend ordering it directly installed. I have the 1TB version. As a web developer, that's enough for me and I prefer to have more memory. The 2TB also has a double-sized SSD on it. Speed-wise, however, my MacBook is faster with a pure SSD.
I would definitely recommend 16 GB. The slots must be evenly distributed, so 2 x 4GB for example, as you wrote. Here is more information: https://www.datenreise.de/imac-retina-5k-arbeitsspeicher-ram-aufruesten/
This works without any problems.
However, it would be advisable to supplement the (slow) fusion drive with an SSD. In other words, boot from an SSD and work on it. This is especially worthwhile for intensive reading and writing work.
Lightroom and Photoshop will not be a problem. Games are possible with restrictions. With limitations means that most games are developed for the Windows platform and not for mac OS. Therefore, there may be limitations in the selection.
Good day
I also bought this iMac and a short time later I increased the Ram s to 2x16GB.
I have installed the following rams:
HyperX Impact (1x, 16GB, DDR4-2400, SO-DIMM 260 pin)
I can only recommend them, they work perfectly, old ones out, new ones in!
Digitec only offers the following variants: https://www.digitec.ch/de/Comparison/6348339-6348340-6348341
You should note that Digitec usually buys the products in large quantities and then stores them so that the products are also available immediately. At Apple, the products are usually produced to order and should therefore have a longer delivery time.
