Is the 8GB sufficient, or would 16GB be recommended? If 2x4GB slots are occupied, then 2x4GB are additionally required, or is 1x8GB also possible?

I would definitely recommend 16 GB. The slots must be evenly distributed, so 2 x 4GB for example, as you wrote. Here is more information: https://www.datenreise.de/imac-retin...
