TreeFrog or SeaSucker?

I have had the SeaSucker Talon (competitor) suction bike rack since 2016, so I'm over the "does it really work" phase for this type of rack. It works. I have already used the TreeFrog rack for a trip with my ~16kg enduro rig and it also worked fine. Quality is comparable to the Seasucker, but it currently seems much easier to source the TreeFrog in CH and it's a bit less expensive.

The base rack comes with a modular mount that will work for 9mm QR axles and 15x100 through axles. If you need boost spacing (15x110) or 12mm through axle for your gravel/road bike, you'll also need to get the related mount in addition. The good news is it all seems to be readily available.

Also FYI, although the bolt spacing is different, the TreeFrog accessories should work with the SeeSucker Talon as they have a slotted interface that bridges the spacing difference. So if you already have a SeaSucker and need new mounts, the TreeFrog ones should work.

Pro

  • Very compact
  • Easy to install / remove
  • Just works
  • All of the disadvantages listed are pretty minor :-)

Contra

  • Very similar design language to the SeaSucker ;-)
  • Slightly stiffer, so it requires a little more effort to install than the SeaSucker
  • Slightly less elegant than the SeaSucker :-)
  • The protective covers for the suction pads are a little more tricky to use than the SeaSucker ones

Nice report, thanks. At what speed were you driving?
