When the bathroom gets a makeover
Just because you live in a rented flat doesn't mean you can't spruce up your bathroom with a few tricks.
There are some things you just can't touch, such as baths, washbasins, toilets and tiles. That said, don't stop there! After moving in, the towel rail ended up in the cellar, as it can be put back in place in a jiffy. The standard glass soap dish from the local DIY shop was replaced with a marble one, and the roll holder with a more elegant one from Scandinavian brand Ferm Living, so beautiful it would almost work as a wall decoration. To personalise and enhance the comfort of this room, I've made a few other arrangements. I'll tell you more about them as we go along.
Replacement of bathroom accessories
Do you want to keep the toothbrush glasses and towel rail so kindly provided by your landlord? No? There are plenty of so much more attractive models on the market that feature other functions and beautify your bathroom to boot; such is the case with toilet paper dispensers featuring a magazine holder and a tray on which to place a pretty scented candle.

It's clean
There are some things that don't change; sanitary facilities, and dirt. So why not let loose a little in the choice of cleaning utensils? Next to the sink, I've replaced the plastic hand brush with a lovely wooden one. The sponges and flannels I use regularly are not pink or yellow - like the ones in the supermarket - but match my bath towels.
Depending on the materials and colours of the shower cubicle, I recommend a discreet squeegee that appears to be one with the whole: if the tiles are dark, opt for a black model, if the taps are chrome, choose a metal or coloured one, so as to maintain a certain consistency.
When it comes to hygiene, there are glass soap dispensers and wooden back brushes that are recyclable and perfectly designed, so you won't have to resort to plastic models.

Hijacked objects
Sometimes my design expectations are so high that I can't find what I want. So I have to be inventive. At home, I've hijacked a paper towel dispenser to hold two rolls of toilet paper. I use a kitchen tray (I must have at least a hundred of them) as a soap dish.
Patere noster
Details make all the difference. And for good reason: when they match, shower curtain rings, coat hooks and other much-loved 's'-shaped hooks can have a soothing effect and blend in with your decor. Lacquered, gold or silver hooks will look great in a bathroom with lots of metal elements. For a more natural look, wooden hooks are just the thing. Finally, colourful hooks will add a new dimension to your wall.

Everything in its place
Consciously choose your storage so that every little thing finally finds its place! Why not salvage existing accessories, place fabric containers or baskets here and there for that cosy little touch?
Wall decorations
Don't stop at the mirror cabinet above the sink! A few decorative elements - such as vases - judiciously placed on small shelves will catch the eye, as will mirrors that reflect light and make the room seem bigger.

A pleasant atmosphere
Both the visual and olfactory aspects are important. Why not incorporate a few candles into the colour code of this room?
