What to expect for the 2017 gardening season: iron or rattan?

"Iron or rattan?" - one of the many questions currently buzzing around in my head. At the CIFF in Guangzhou, China, manufacturers from all over Asia are presenting their latest models and developments. We don't meet any well-known furniture designers or brands, but rather the sources of the creations at small, inconspicuous stands.
From copies of copies to new developments and original models from well-known brands, everything can be found. This trade fair is not primarily about discovering new designs, but about new manufacturers, their material innovations and attractive prices.
Changes or country-specific adaptations to their consumers and needs are discussed and initiated on the spot. Depending on the customer target group, material changes can be more favourable or of higher quality. Different rules apply here: You can copy, reinterpret, change and customise. There are almost no limits to the realisation of your own ideas. Too much innovation is a dangerous game in the home sector, as consumers are slow to pick up on trends.
Outstanding implementations were garden lounges with white, fine aluminium frames and grey seat cushions. Corner models with wooden shelves on the sides, which serve perfectly as storage space, were also popular. In future, lounges will look much lighter and the trend is moving away from heavy, bulky models: Whether it's a fine frame or feet attached at the bottom, garden furniture will be lifted into the air in 2017.

And what now? Iron or rattan after all?
Iron is undoubtedly the emerging trend for the 2017 garden season. If you like it trendy, you should definitely opt for cool, airy iron versions. Those who prefer the traditional will be more comfortable with the classic or modern wicker options.

I’m always looking out for new trends, true to the motto: «Decorate in a style today everyone will want tomorrow». As I have to take it down a notch at work, I express myself in my own home. It’s where you’ll find curiosities, collectables from faraway places and handmade things side by side. Interior design should always be personal and authentic – just like you are.
