Travelling with just hand luggage - 10 tips

A big, full suitcase can be expensive. Lena Geeler, our travel blogger, gives you 10 tips for saving time and money when packing your suitcase.
When, a few years ago, the woman working at baggage check-in stuck a super kitschy yellow sticker with the words "heavy" on my suitcase, I had to break my piggy bank for the first time to pay for the extra kilos - and I'm not talking about the ones I picked up eating every day at the all-inclusive hotel buffet. I had to break my piggy bank for the first time to pay for the extra kilos - and I'm not talking about the ones I gained by eating every day at the all-inclusive hotel buffet. As local airlines are also starting to offer better prices for those travelling without a suitcase and with only hand luggage, and suitcases sometimes get lost along the way, I think the time is now right to travel with only hand luggage.
I'm showing you today, how with a few simple tips and tricks, it's possible to survive a two week holiday or more with just a hand luggage.
First Things First
First think about exactly what you want to do on your holiday. If you're already allergic to sport under normal circumstances, you can leave your trainers at home. The hotel's super-chic gym will hardly tempt you. On holiday, we often want to take clothes and accessories with us that we would otherwise never wear, because holidays seem to be the perfect opportunity to wear them, because you're getting out of your own comfort zone. But it's precisely these things that stay at the bottom of the suitcase for the duration of the holiday.
Choose the right suitcase
It doesn't matter if you already have a suitcase you can take as hand luggage or if you're looking for one: first compare the dimensions with the hand luggage standards of common airlines. I bought the Bon Air Spinner S from American Tourister. Not only because it's extremely stable and weighs just 2.5kg, but above all because almost all airlines accept it, even the low-cost ones. Filling the suitcase - my 10 tips
- Roll up your clothes. They won't wrinkle and you'll have 20% more space in your suitcase.

- Take only the minimum amount of clothes with you, and pack travel detergent to remove stains and odours from clothes. This will allow you to wear them several times.
- Put your socks in the shoes. Works great with underwear too.

- Be sure to take beach shoes that you can also wear to restaurants and with which you can walk long distances.
- Put your liquid products in small bottles or buy everything in travel size. Is there something you'll need just once or twice? Take a straw, seal one side with a lighter, fill the straw with liquid and also seal the second side with the lighter. [[productlist:412845]]
- Store all liquid products in a transparent, watertight kit.

- Coloured solids are your best allies, as they work easily together.
- When choosing your clothes, look for them to be stackable.
- Waterproofs protect you from rain and wind, and you can be sure they'll get through airport security, which isn't always the case with umbrellas.
- Wear the thickest clothes for travelling.
By the way, when you travel with hand luggage, you save not only money, but also time, because you don't have to wait for your luggage. And the fear that your suitcase has been lost on the way is now a thing of the past.
