In the "Tour de Suisse" series, I visit food producers all over Switzerland. Today I'm off to distil schnapps at the Humbel distillery in Stetten in the canton of Aargau.

A tall chimney that has not been used for years. Storks have found a new home on it. Stetten is a typical village in the canton of Aargau. There is little going on here. Those who live here usually commute to work by car, with the Postbus running every half hour.

Hotel has been making schnapps here for 100 years. The Humbel distillery is known far beyond the canton's borders, especially for its fruit brandies. This morning, over 16 tonnes of quinces have been delivered from the region. These now need to be processed into schnapps. The fruit has to be defleaed and washed with a high-pressure cleaner, then chopped up and stored in a tank for fermentation. Watch the video to see how I managed the job and what I can do as a schnapps distiller.

In the next episode, I'll be travelling to the canton of Solothurn to prove myself as a butcher. I'm going to try my hand at producing bacon. <p

When I flew the family nest over 15 years ago, I suddenly had to cook for myself. But it wasn’t long until this necessity became a virtue. Today, rattling those pots and pans is a fundamental part of my life. I’m a true foodie and devour everything from junk food to star-awarded cuisine. Literally. I eat way too fast.
