The ridge walker

Stay out, stay dry, move on. No problem if you have a good rain jacket. My joker in the weather poker is the Exposure Paclite by Mountain Hardwear.
When I went hiking with adventurer Ruedi Gamper in Appenzell, he gave me a critical look because I had no equipment – and then handed me a thin rain jacket from the inexhaustible collection in his VW bus. The first thing I did was put it away in my rucksack. But later, I was glad to have it with me. In fast-changing weather, it’s key to have a windproof and waterproof outer layer that’s also breathable. After all, my cold sweat has to go somewhere.
After our expedition, what remained was great memories and the realisation that I need an outdoor rain jacket. In the meantime, I have bridged this crucial gap in my equipment with the Exposure Paclite by Mountain Hardwear.
It has an eco-friendly PFC-free coating and Gore-Tex's «Paclite» technology, making this jacket breathable and waterproof. This laminate construction features a membrane that's attached to the outer material while a thin protective layer on the inside eliminates the need for an inner lining.
With no lining, this jacket can be packed very small. In addition to a chest pocket, it has two side vents for temperature control. As these are lined with mesh elements, they double as pockets if need be. Stretch elements provide freedom of movement and elasticated hood and waist ensure perfect fit. The width of its sleeves can be adjusted with Velcro fasteners.
A good rain jacket is always a good investment. The Exposure Paclite meets my requirements: it’s light, waterproof, breathable, adjustable and versatile. On top of this, it features a PFC-free coating and a large hood that fits a helmet. I have no regrets. Except maybe that I waited so long to get a jacket like this one as an alternative to my cycling jacket.
