Find the right hat for your face shape
In winter, the cold wind is howling past your ears because hats just don’t look good on you? I dare to disagree. You just haven’t found the right one for you.
I felt the same way. For years, I thought about getting ear warmers. Not because I think they look good. Quite the opposite, in fact. No, I’d just accepted my fate – no hat looks good on me.
Does this sound familiar? No matter how nice your friend’s new hat looks at first sight, as soon as you wear it, it’s not flattering anymore. Don’t despair! This is neither the universe being mean to you, nor does it mean you’re doomed to have cold ears for the rest of your life. All it means is that your friend and you don’t have the same face shape. That’s it.
Once you know if your face is square, round, heart-shaped or oval, picking a hat will be a breeze. Trust me, there’s a hat for every face shape. I’m speaking from experience. After all, me and my heart-shaped face have finally found the right hat – and don’t have to resort to ear warmers after all.
Square face
If you have a high and rather wide forehead and quite a prominent jaw, your face shape is probably square.
Go for a hat that makes your features look softer – ones that are voluminous, but soft and can be pulled over your forehead. Berets also look good on you and soften the edges of your face.
Hats for you:
Round face
You have soft features, your cheekbones are the widest part and your face is pretty evenly round?
Hats that aren’t tight-fitting, but stick up high above your head, help to visually stretch your face. Another trick to create length is to go for hats with attached pompons.
Hats for you:
Heart-shaped face
Your forehead and cheekbones are wide, leading into a narrow or pointed chin? You probably have a heart-shaped face.
Wide hats can balance out your contour. Go for an aviator hat with ear flaps, also called a trapper hat. Or choose the fluffy soft version of a bucket hat.
Hats for you:
Oval face
You have a narrow forehead, a slightly wider cheek area and a narrow chin? If so, you have an oval face – and the world of hats is your oyster. Every hat looks good on you. Congrats! I’m a tiny bit jealous.
