Scandinavia meets Japan: japandi
Japon and Scandi(navie), or "japandi", are similar in terms of sober aesthetics and functionality - and they go together.
Now you too are familiar with the term japandi! Since 2017, it has been used in the world of design to describe an interior trend and convinces with remarkable qualities: aesthetics and functionality. The dreamy duo brings a dreamy hygge ambience to our interiors - and also makes our everyday lives easier with useful details. As the boundaries between the two styles aren't very pronounced, I'll summarise their similarities for you:
Minimalism
Staying true to the motto "the best is the enemy of the good", design in both countries follows clear lines. The furniture therefore eschews all embellishment and fuss. With a love of detail, accessories are staged with a few deliberate focal points.
Natural
The choice of material is similar to the form: pure and as natural as possible. Light and dark woods are central to both styles and are used in many ways. Both generally emphasise traditional craftsmanship. Small flaws in ceramic tableware are therefore welcome. Here too, the beauty lies in the details.
Colours
Colour also gives furniture and accessories a uniform look. Japandi designers like to use pale colours and delicate pastel tones. The shades of colour in rustic wood emphasise the sober colour palette.

Function
As well as having a decorative function, every piece in the interior must have a practical function. Here, there's no such thing as fuss. But fear not: for all vase lovers, this means always having fresh flowers to justify the use of each one in front of a style "purist".
Here's how japandi works
The common denominators of Nordic and Asian style make styling easy. The advantages of both styles are also the fact that they force you to clear your surroundings first. That way, you avoid purely decorative purchases. You also go to more trouble to hide them in beautiful boxes or big storage boxes. Here are my favourites for the japandi look:
