Copy and paste: the comeback of red tights
by Stephanie Vinzens
I am writing this text on 29 December 2023, full of joyful anticipation for the new year. But also with the question in my luggage: Which trends would we have preferred to have avoided this year?
New year, new vibe. But before we slide (hopefully glitteringly) into the still-trendy 2024, let's take a look back. That's what you do. Reflect, evaluate and learn from your mistakes. Even from those you've made yourself. Or realise that you didn't make any. It was nice ...
Whether you made a mistake or not, you can now decide with me. On this short journey backwards through five trends of 2023.
Signal red tights have spread like wildfire (in the truest sense of the word) on social media over the past month. If you wanted to get in on the trend, you didn't have to invest much to make a big impact. As the love for the bold legwear is still quite young, I reckon it will be with us for some time to come. Are you happy about that, or have you long since had your fill of red legs?

Our hair was not spared a trend accessory in 2023 either. Bows in wide or narrow, velvet or silk embellished plaits, buns and individual strands. For the not-so-fingered, the perfect bow was already included in the hair tie. What do you think? A pretty eye-catcher for the festive season, or have we tied a bear on ourselves?

One thing is certain: we won't be able to avoid new whatever-cores in 2024 either. After Barbiecore, Balletcore, Weirdcore and Gorpcore, last year also blessed us with Blokecore - the symbiosis of sport and fashion. Suddenly, jerseys were considered socially acceptable tops for everyone. Cool or cringe?

As much as I'd like to, I can't forget the giant red bots from Mschf. In fact, quite a few people paid 350 US dollars this year to stuff their feet into giant red wellies. The hype was huge, the boots were always on sale and, looking back, what remains? Shame or fond memories?

My colleague Stephanie dubbed the casual storage trousers the "most down-to-earth trend of the year" in March. I have to agree with her and confess: I also have one in my wardrobe that I have worn up and down - at least for a certain period of time. There's nothing to regret. Or do you see it differently?

Have I forgotten a 2023 trend that particularly picked you up or left you stunned? Let me know in the comments.
