On the agenda: Are you coming to Fashion Revolution Week?
Virtual was yesterday, today we discover fashion - and fair - again very real. These events await you in Switzerland in April
Remember when the whole (fashion-interested) internet could hardly contain itself with excitement? The first Fashion Week in the Metaverse, OMG! The virtual reality platform Decentraland opened its doors to designers like Dolce & Gabbana, Etro and Tommy Hilfiger from March 24 to 27. Premiere, pixel curtain up, everyone can be there! Well, colleague Stephanie Vinzens and I were - and disappointed in the first place. So it's good that from now on we can stumble through real life again to experience fashion. And even right on our doorstep. Because April is all about Fashion Revolution Week.
The idea behind it? Workshops, panel talks and interactive events are designed to raise awareness of the fashion industry's impact on the environment. Where do our clothes actually come from, under what conditions are they produced and what alternatives are there to thoughtless waste? All these questions are being addressed from Basel to St. Gallen, from Aargau to Ticino - and in numerous other cities from over 100 countries. Fashion Revolution, for example, is a global movement that was founded in 2013. Under its hashtag #whomademyclothes, which calls for more transparency in the fashion industry, nearly one million Instagram posts can be found. We've already picked out a few gems from the extensive program and will, of course, tell you about our experiences right here.
Sustainable shopping trail in Basel from April 8-9
Many of us want to shop more consciously - and end up at the next opportunity between the clothes racks of certain fast fashion brands from Spain and Sweden. The Fashion Revolution Parcours in Basel offers inspiration for more sustainable shopping tours with 27 stops at sustainable labels, concept stores and second-hand stores.
Art project with passers-by in Aarau on April 8
Through our clothes we communicate - consciously or unconsciously - who we are and who we want to be. In the project "What / do you see / me?" artists get to the bottom of this phenomenon. Every Friday evening, they invite passers-by to the Aarau art space ECK for a photo shoot and conversation. The result is immediately shown as a projection in the shop window.
"Fair Traders" film screening in Bern on April 20.
Can sustainability and ethics be reconciled with the cost pressures of the free market economy? Zero-waste textile entrepreneur Sina Trinkwalder, organic farm operator Claudia Zimmermann and Patrick Hohmann, who has set up two large-scale projects for the production of organic cotton in India and Tanzania, think yes. In his documentary, Swiss director Nino Jacusso shows the difficult balancing act of the three businessmen. You can watch "Fair Traders" in the old carpentry workshop of the fire department Viktoria in Bern.
Talk about fair wages in Lucerne on April 21
Binding framework conditions for living wages are practically non-existent along the global fashion value chain: In many production countries, the minimum wage of workers is not enough to survive. How this social injustice can be counteracted and what challenges exist will be discussed by the founders of three sustainable brands during a roundtable discussion at Glore Zurich.
Sewing Café in St. Gallen on 23 April
The wasteful use of clothing has made the fashion industry one of the dirtiest industries in the world. We can make a small contribution against this by loving our wardrobe longer - and giving old pieces a second chance. For example, at the [sewing café of Couture Matuh in St. Gallen] (https://tockify.com/fashion.revolution/detail/203/1650715200000). At various stations, adults and children can embroider, sew and mend with the help of a professional. There's also coffee and cake.
Talk about digital fashion in Zurich on 23 April
Our experience at Fashion Week in the Metaverse was a washout. But we haven't written off the topic. The hype in the industry is too big, the promises around NFTs and digital fashion too fascinating. So you'll almost certainly meet us at the Panel Talk at the Paulus Akademie in Zurich's Kreis 5, where the potential of the fashion world in cyberspace will be discussed.
Well, are you hooked yet? You can find a complete overview of all events you can attend live here. Maybe we'll see each other.
