Now available: Coffee machine from "CoffeeB" with compostable coffee balls
The CoffeeB Pluto prepares espresso and lungo from compostable coffee balls. The compact machine requires neither capsules nor pods to do so.
Portafilter, capsule, pod, filter, French press, or a fully automatic machine? There is a huge selection of different machines and preparation methods for making coffee in your own home. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. Those who like it uncomplicated often opt for capsule or pod machines with pre-portioned coffee.
The Swiss brand CoffeeB is also involved in this area. It belongs to Migros and has developed a system that uses compostable balls instead of aluminum or plastic capsules. This is intended to reduce packaging waste. For households with one to two people, our new shop addition, the CoffeeB Pluto, could be interesting.
The Pluto is twelve centimeters wide, around 22 centimeters high, and just under 40 centimeters deep. The water tank holds 0.75 liters, and the water volume for espresso and lungo can each be adjusted between 25 and 200 milliliters.
Coffee at the push of a lever and button
Preparing coffee is simple: you open the lever on the top and place a so-called coffee ball in the slot underneath. Then you push the lever down and select the respective button for espresso or lungo. The machine then begins the brewing process. The pump pressure is 19 bar.
The used coffee balls land in a collection container, which you can pull out and empty with one hand, just like the drip tray. According to the manufacturer, the balls are completely compostable. An LED reminds you to empty the collection container. It holds up to six used coffee balls. It also indicates when the machine needs to be descaled.
To save energy, the machine switches off automatically after one minute of non-use.
