No more warm white wine thanks to the Beezer beverage cooler

Ever wanted to enjoy a cool glass of wine, but didn’t put the bottle in the fridge in advance? The Beezer solves this problem, as it cools drinks in no time. But let’s be honest, who needs a beverage cooler?

For English subtitles, click the gear icon, «Subtitles/CC» and «Auto-translate».

The device in front of me is as big as a gaming PC. It has a door at the front and four buttons. That’s it. I can open the door, put a bottle or a can in it, press Start and my drink’s cold in a few minutes. Well, that’s provided I’ve pre-cooled the device for around ten minutes beforehand. And that’s the first problem with the Beezer: in an unplanned emergency – last-minute guests arrive or I’ve forgotten to put the wine in the fridge – I still have to wait about twenty minutes before I can serve cold drinks.

Does its job – cooling beverages

The Beezer settings include the refrigeration temperature, rotation and bottle size. The device itself has a permanent core temperature of minus 30 degrees Celsius and indicates how long it takes to cool a drink, depending on how cold you choose the temperature to be. There’s no sensor or smart function that signals when the drink’s cooled down.

The Beezer might not have a sensor, but it has an app that allows me to fine-tune the cooling process. It offers various settings such as target temperature, bottle size and current temperature in the Beezer, and then calculates the perfect cooling time so that my 7.5 dl bottle of Pinot Noir, for instance, is cooled from 21 to 16 degrees. Unfortunately, I can only use the app once I’ve created a user account.

Everything works perfectly: it takes less than five minutes to chill a can of beer and around seven minutes for a bottle of wine. That’s much faster than in a freezer compartment, even if you wrap the bottle in wet kitchen paper first. But just like in a freezer compartment, don’t forget to take your drink out of the Beezer in time or bottles might burst.

This is where the drinks go.

The most I managed to squeeze into the cooling compartment was a 1.5 l PET bottle and two 0.5 l cans. Magnum bottles don’t fit in the cooler.

I do wonder who needs such a device. After all, if you have enough space and money for the Beezer, you could also buy a large fridge and keep your wine and beer chilled permanently. So the only time you’d need such a beverage cooler is if you have a huge collection of room-temperature drinks and want to cool them individually. This probably doesn’t happen often in a private home. It might in a restaurant, but then it would still take forever to cool down all drinks.

In a nutshell

Works a treat, but nobody really needs it

The Beezer’s one of those products you think you might need, but it’s worth thinking twice. If you’re sure you can’t live without a beverage cooler, this one’s a great choice. I give it four out of five stars. However, most people probably don’t need such a device, as they’re rarely in a hurry to cool down more than one or two drinks at a time.

Pro

  • Cools drinks quickly and effectively
  • Precise control with app
  • Easy to operate

Contra

  • Needs about ten minutes to cool down before first use
  • Takes up a lot of space
  • App requires an account

When I flew the family nest over 15 years ago, I suddenly had to cook for myself. But it wasn’t long until this necessity became a virtue. Today, rattling those pots and pans is a fundamental part of my life. I’m a true foodie and devour everything from junk food to star-awarded cuisine. Literally. I eat way too fast.
