Your child can playfully learn different colours with a pegging game. Home-made games have the advantage of being more responsive to your child's needs.

My daughter likes to make patterns, arrange colours or play with small figures. Pegging games are perfect for this. They also train her fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Let's make our DIY version of her dream pegging game together.

For the pegging game, you need an old cardboard box, coloured felt-tip pens and cotton buds. Scissors and a needle are also very helpful.

Craft this educational game

Colour the cardboard box with a cheerful motif that suits your child.

Cut the cotton buds in half with the scissors and paint the tip in the same colours you used for the picture.

Poke individual holes in the different colours with the needle. Depending on the size of the needle, you may need to stretch the hole a little so that the cotton bud fits in later.

Now your child can put the cotton buds in the matching coloured areas. After playing, simply store the sticks in the box.

Game variants

Explain the colours to your child and let them match the cotton buds to the coloured background. It also gets really creative when your child is allowed to insert the colours themselves in a colourful and mixed-up way and has "painted" the picture with the sticks themselves at the end.

By the way, this compact game is also a great activity for when you're on the go.

Adjust the difficulty level

When crafting, you can vary the complexity of the image greatly. Many small motifs make the game more challenging. For small children, make a few holes at the beginning and gradually add more to make the game more difficult. You can also influence the difficulty with the choice of colour. I deliberately chose very different colours for our game. However, you could even go so far as to use shades of one colour.

If you're looking for more inspiration for your pegging game, you'll find it here. Your child is sure to have lots of creative ideas too. I wish you lots of fun with your crafting.

My students, but also my own children, inspire me every day with their wild imaginations. I love to document the creative projects that come from them on my blog Fantasiewerk. I hope to inspire many moms and dads to do crafts with their children. [Fantasiewerk.ch](https://fantasiewerk.ch)
