Laura's Likes: 7 gingham pieces inspired by Barbie's trend dress
Gingham, Vichy patterns or peasant checks - Barbie has set off a wave of trends that we are surfing along with these finds.
The "Barbie" film is currently breaking all records at the box office. It has also sparked a new love for the colour pink worldwide and an entire dress code called Barbiecore. Yes, the bright and colourful film has really blown our minds.
I also have Barbie to thank for the fact that I'm suddenly frantically clicking through small chequered items that look like picnic blankets at first glance. Or rather her brilliant costume designer Jacqueline Durran, who has already been honoured with the Oscar for Best Costume Design for her employees on "Anna Karenina" (2012) and "Little Women" (2019). Durran has now had her latest protagonist stroll through the bubblegum backdrop in two different versions of pink and white gingham check.

No wonder it makes you want to play chequers, right? Of course, you could also go for Barbie's favourite colour. If you want to copy the trend a little more subtly, extend the colour palette to blue, green, yellow and red.
By the way, the term gingham in its classic meaning also describes the material - a light cotton fabric. This is usually woven in two colours, resulting in the characteristic checked pattern. This is also known as Vichy or peasant check.
