Just in time for Valentine’s Day: waffles – as you’ve always known them

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching – and Tefal is promoting a waffle iron that can make waffles in the shape of a heart. Hang on a sec ... don’t they all do that?

Waffles taste awesome. Be it with a sweet chocolate spread or savory cheesy mash, you can’t go wrong. When I came across a press release comes about a new waffle iron, my curiosity was piqued. What can this waffle iron do that hasn’t been done yet?

What’s better than dessert, asks manufacturer Tefal in its press release. The subject line? Valentine’s Day – Dishes for the Heart. Tefal’s answer? Heart-shaped dessert!

Hang on there ... don’t waffle makers always form heart-shaped waffles? A quick Google image search proves me right. Even my mother’s waffle iron, a no-name product from the GDR, conjured up the sweet pastries of my childhood in this romantic shape.

Press e-mails typically serve to promote a new product. The Ultra-Compact waffle maker from Tefal has been on the market – and available in our store – for quite some time, confirming my suspicion that Tefal’s trying to disguise and sell me a well-known product as a groundbreaking novelty. And all simply because it’s Valentine’s Day yet again and the gadget just so happens to form little hearts.

So, if you've been thinking about getting a waffle maker that creates heart-shaped waffles, here’s what you can expect from the Tefal Ultra Compact.

According to Tefal, the iron is equipped with non-stick plates. That way, the waffles don’t cling to the appliance when you take them out, which probably makes washing up easier, too. Furthermore, the manufacturer states the waffle iron is easy to use thanks to an on-off light and a steplessly variable temperature control.

In a nutshell:

  • Bakes 5 heart-shaped waffles;
  • Large baking pan with a diameter of 20 centimetres;
  • Non-stick coating for low-fat baking, accident-free removal and easy cleaning;
  • On-off light indicates when the unit is warmed up.

In short, nothing new, but fun and tasty nonetheless.
