It's the end of the frosts - put some flowers on your balcony!

The frosts are finally over and you can start planting flowers and decorating your balcony to make it more attractive. We'll show you step-by-step what you need to pay attention to so that your plants grow quickly.
1. Clean flower boxes and flower pots
You should first clean the flower tubs and pots with a broom, cloths or a brush to remove any dirt.
2. The right layers of soil
At the very bottom of the flower pot, you should put a drainage layer of expanded clay, so that watering water doesn't pool in the soil. The clay slowly moistens the soil. On top of the drainage layer, place a separating layer to prevent the soil from soaking up water. Next comes the potting soil, into which you should add more long-lasting fertiliser or horn shavings.

Planters with a double bottom do not need a drainage layer. On the side, these tubs are equipped with filling pipes for watering. This means the plants always have a certain reserve of water.
3. Removing balcony plants from plastic pots
Before you start planting your plants, first remove them from the plastic pots. To do this, press down on the pot in several places to release the roots. You can then gently remove the plant from the pot. You can now place the plants in the planter. Fill the spaces with soil and tamp lightly. Make sure you still leave a little room (approx. 3 cm) above the layer of soil, so that the watering water doesn't overflow.

4. Water regularly and correctly
You should water plants on the balcony in the morning and evening, as they only have a small water reserve. Soft, low-limescale rainwater is ideal. The water should be poured directly onto the soil and not onto the leaves and flowers.
5. The right plants for tubs
Typical balcony plants such as geraniums, petunias, dahlias or hibiscus are ideal for sunny spots. Aromatic herbs such as chives, basil, rosemary or oregano also like sunny spots. Begonias, hydrangeas, fuchsias, as well as ferns and ivy prefer shade.
