In comparison: Stand mixers and mixing results

Blenders are a dime a dozen. Magazines report on high-speed blenders, nutrient extractors and sports blenders. The topic is also of interest to our customers and the Community, who are increasingly asking themselves how the appliances differ and what they are good for. We want to know exactly and have tested six products from our range.
We want to know how good our blenders really are and have tested promising blenders from all price ranges. What makes a good blender? The word smoothie comes from the English word "smooth" and means as much as smooth or airy. This is exactly how this healthy and refreshing drink should feel on the palate. The combination of the blade and the fit of the blender jug plays an important role here. The flow of liquid during blending should not simply rotate with the blade, but should ideally always hit the blade. Excellent, "smooth" blending results can be achieved even at low motor power or revolutions per minute.
What was tested
Our jury consisted of three people from Product Management, the photographer and myself.
Mix result
We tested the blending result exactly as a customer would do it. Flavour and smoothness were important to us. We also made sure that all ingredients were fully processed. If chia seeds or granules from the added raspberries were noticeable, this was a clear minus point. Mixing time and ingredients were consistent. The rating was set at 1 to 5 points.

Volume
Blending a smoothie in the morning and waking up the whole house? Not exactly what you want. For this reason, the volume of the appliances has been recorded.

Temperature
As a smoothie should not get hot, we measured the temperature. The starting temperature was 20.7 degrees for all of them. However, it should be noted here that frozen raspberries were added to the mix and the results can therefore be distorted - the same happens, of course, if you add ice to your smoothie.

Cleaning
We wanted to include this point in the evaluation, but quickly realised when hand-washing that this happens equally quickly for everyone. For this reason, we only note here whether parts of the blender can be put in the dishwasher.
High-performance blender
High-performance blenders differ from normal blenders mainly due to their significantly more powerful motors, which, in combination with high-quality blades and an optimised fit of the blender jug, leads to particularly good blending results. Even stubborn ingredients such as chia or hemp seeds are completely chopped and smoothly integrated into the drink. The food gets warm quite quickly due to the high friction generated during blending. If you want, you can take this so far that even warm soups can be blended. For a refreshing smoothie, you can compensate for the effect by adding ice cubes or frozen berries.

Philips Avance Collection HR3652/02
This previously used appliance was provided to us as a test object. Unfortunately, a seal was missing at the bottom of the container, which we only noticed when we filled it with orange juice. As a result of this mishap, all the liquid flowed into and through the blender, making it unusable. As a result, this appliance could not be tested as the picture above suggests.

Mini blender / sports blender
The smaller mini blenders are suitable for the occasional smoothie "on the go". They often come with suitable accessories, such as a blender jug that can also be used as a drinking bottle.

Striking in comparison
The parallels between the WMF and Electrolux sports blender cannot be denied. Let someone else say they are not made in the same place ;) However, the blender jugs are different, which can significantly affect the blending result.

Conclusion
I was amazed at how big the differences were between a high-performance blender and a normal stand mixer. In my opinion, the dauntingly high price is justified. If I were to regularly enjoy smoothies or blend up other great things, I would definitely go for a Vitamix PRO 750. The result has convinced me 100%. Of course, the other blenders also blend and are perfectly adequate depending on your requirements. When choosing a blender, you should also consider the size of your kitchen, as not all models are so easy to store.
