Galaxus election poll: what’s up in Switzerland’s greenest village?

On 22 October, Switzerland will elect a new National Council and Council of States. In the last election four years ago, one village voted for the Green Party more than any other – Oltingen in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. Is the green trend still going strong in 2023?

In 2019, almost 40% of people living in Oltingen voted for the Green Party. While rural areas tend to be SVP strongholds, Oltingen is a Green bastion. How come? And is the green trend still ongoing? Valentina and I did some field research. Check out the video in the header to find out.. For English subtitles, click the gear icon, «Subtitles/CC» and «Auto-translate».

Who are you voting for on 22 October? Do you support the Green Party like people in Oltingen or are you more in line with Horrenbach-Buchen (BE), the municipality with the highest share of SVP voters? The latter’s where we’re planning to film our next episode. Or do you reckon we should keep our hands off politics in general? Share your opinion in the comment section!

When I flew the family nest over 15 years ago, I suddenly had to cook for myself. But it wasn’t long until this necessity became a virtue. Today, rattling those pots and pans is a fundamental part of my life. I’m a true foodie and devour everything from junk food to star-awarded cuisine. Literally. I eat way too fast.
