It's a trendy piece: the rainbow. Your children can easily recreate it with these simple instructions.

I noticed that many windows had a rainbow on them during the lockdown. It often said: "We're staying at home. Everything will be fine!" Fortunately, we got through this phase. However, this time also brought out lots of colourful craft and decorative elements for me and my children. Including this rainbow to recreate.

To the unique rainbow

For your rainbow, you will need a cardboard, yarn in rainbow colours and cotton pads. In addition, glue, scissors and pencil required for crafting.

Let's get crafting

First cut out a cardboard sheet. You can choose any size you like. To ensure that the two curves are parallel, you can draw the lines with a compass before cutting them out.

Tie the first piece of yarn to the back of the cardboard sheet and wrap it around a few times. When you have finished one colour section, knot the yarn again and start on the next colour.

Continue wrapping and knotting until you have used all the colours.

Tape a few cotton pads as clouds underneath the rainbow to round off the two ends.

Think outside the rainbow

If your children find it difficult to knot the yarn themselves, I recommend using double-sided adhesive tape. Stick this to the cardboard so that the yarn stays in place. This can be a huge relief for some children and can therefore have a positive effect on their motivation and stamina.

According to the principle of the reform pedagogue Maria Montessori, I always try to help the children to find their own way to the goal. They can certainly implement this craft idea independently. Encourage your children to contribute their own ideas and develop the rainbow further.

If you've now got the urge to create a trendy rainbow for your home - or you're already in rainbow fever - then grab the materials and get started! Have fun crafting. <p

My students, but also my own children, inspire me every day with their wild imaginations. I love to document the creative projects that come from them on my blog Fantasiewerk. I hope to inspire many moms and dads to do crafts with their children. [Fantasiewerk.ch](https://fantasiewerk.ch)
