Digitec vs. FC Winterthur: we’re playing FIFA 23 against the Swiss Super League newbie

For the first time ever, FC Winterthur is featured in FIFA 23. That’s why Luca and I are challenging FCW’s pro players Roman Buess and Tobias Schättin to a match. The livestream kicks off on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

FIFA has been released every year without interruption since 1993. And yet, FC Winterthur has never been included in the football simulation game. But with FIFA 23 and the team’s promotion to the Swiss Super League, this has changed. For the first time ever, the historical club can play for the Swiss Championship and even go for the Champions League title. This even made me, an old «FIFA» grouch, give the game a chance again after almost 30 years.

Who almost certainly plays «FIFA» more than I do? The footballers of FC Winterthur – especially now that they can play themselves. A perfect opportunity to challenge them to a match. If it’s just me playing, I’m pretty much guaranteed to go down worse than the FCW did in some of the last Super League games. That’s why my workmate Luca Fontana will be coming to my aid. Let’s see if his FIFA skills are really as legendary as he always claims. Our opponents will be Roman Buess and Tobias Schättin. Both of them have been indispensable pillars at FC Winterthur for years now.

The game will be streamed live from the Schützenwiese Stadium. Naturally, Roman and Tobias will be playing for the virtual FC Winterthur. Which Super League team should Luca and I select? You get to decide!

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
