Street photography with the iPhone SE – «Not that easy but it seems promising»
by Thomas Kunz
Armin, Manuel and I want to get the most out of the iPhone SE. We're interested in what the phone can do with its simple camera. In the first part I took street photos, now I'm editing them on the smartphone. Vote for which picture will be printed large and win it!
For 429 francs, you can get an iPhone SE. Very little money for an Apple smartphone compared to the top models. The manufacturer from Cupertino seems to have saved money on the camera in particular: Instead of three, like the top models, the back of the SE is adorned with just one camera. Editor Armin, video producer Manuel and I take a closer look at the device and have fun with it. The best thing about it: you decide what happens next every time.
On 22 August, I asked on Instagram what I should do with the iPhone SE as a photographer. You chose street photography. In response, I took a day out to take street photos in Biel.
I then edited these images on my iPhone. This worked pretty well with the Lightroom app from Adobe. I didn't have to edit the images very intensively. I mainly changed the exposure, contrast, sharpness and saturation. With the app, I was able to take the photos in raw and thus edit them with less loss of quality. I then exported the photos as a tiff. They are ready to be printed by the specialist.
The photos look good on the smartphone. But I'm already looking forward to seeing how they look on paper. I'm particularly interested in how large we can print them with a decent quality. What do you think? And anyway: which picture do you like best?
After the vote, we will try to print the winning photo over one metre in size. We will raffle off the print among all participants.
Which picture do you like best?
The competition has ended.
Follow me as author so you don't miss the vote. In the next part of the series, video producer Manuel will film a bike action video with the SE. And finally, editor Armin will edit the 4K footage on the iPhone SE. <p
