Anyone fed up with Barbiecore and all shades of pink could indulge their dark side at Fashion Week in Copenhagen.
The whole world is in pink fever. It's all thanks to Barbie, who has not only dominated the cinema box office for weeks, but also our sense of aesthetics. I therefore felt almost disorientated as I strolled through the Danish capital during Copenhagen Fashion Week. Pink? Not a thing. Has the trend colour wave not yet made its way up here to the north? Or has it long since washed away again?
I'm guessing the latter. Because in the shows for spring and summer 24, the big brands such as Ganni, Henrik Vibskov and Rotate Birger Christensen mainly showed leather, here and there latex, dark denim, sand tones and muted checks. Sticky bubblegum pink and hyper-feminine silhouettes are definitely not part of the Danish vision of the future. And the guests at fashion week seem to have already internalised this. This season, Copenhagen didn't remind me of Barbie Land at all, but rather evoked associations with "The Matrix" and "Tomb Raider".
No pink, no pink, no sunshine yellow or baby blue. The consensus in Copenhagen was that black, grey and neutral sand tones were the better choice.
If you want to be part of the countermovement, you need big leather jackets, functional cargo trousers and heavy soles. Swap the bouclé jacket for a trench coat and wear your hair pulled back away from your face. Battle mode on.
Also - just because no one wants it to be playful anymore doesn't mean that details no longer play a role. On the contrary. The more there is to discover on a small scale, the more emphatic the declaration of war becomes.
