Stamina required - which candle burns the longest?
by Pia Seidel
In a 24-hour livestream that was hard to beat in terms of excitement and drama, we burnt seven candles in a race. Four of the candidates who competed were able to snatch victory. Only two of them also scored in the style category.
The first candle race that Switzerland (and probably YouTube) has ever seen is history. I blew out the last candles at 4pm the day before yesterday. Pure drama! The flames of the Rustik, Hand-Carved Rosa, Bend and Pyropet Dyri candles lasted until the very end. Although some of them weren't as bright as they were at the beginning, a spark of hope was enough to win.
This means that the question of "Which candle burns the longest?" has not been definitively answered. In the end, two candles stood like a charm. Ferm Living "Hand-carved Rosa" and Gugu's "Rustik" would have easily burnt for another 12 hours. Broste Copenhagen "Bend" and 54Celcius Pyropet "Pyropet Dyri" were visibly damaged, but held out. The remaining candidates burnt out earlier.

The entire livestream was accompanied at intervals by presenter Simon Balissat and Baba Shrimps. The Swiss band produced the one-hour track "Eternal Flame" especially for the Candle Race 2020. The five newly interpreted songs, which were played every 10 minutes, included Christmas classics such as "Last Christmas" and "Jingle Bells". In between, the pleasant sounds of matches and crackling could be heard. A brief look behind the scenes shows you how the track was created:
We would like to thank everyone who has been cheering us on and had a sleepless night like me as a candle keeper - and we just want to know one more thing from you:
Would you like a second round?
