Bye-bye pimples! Stay «undercover» with this concealer hack

The final boss: acne. Cover it in make-up? Easier said than done. Use this trick to make it disappear reliably.

All you really want is to just conceal the pimple. But after blending your make-up, the redness makes a cheeky comeback. So you put another layer on. And another, until you’ve applied so much that the blemish is emphasised even more. This wasn’t how things were supposed to go. Only one option left: change the plan of attack!

It’s all about technique

At this point, some would advise using a green colour corrector to neutralise the red. Sure, you could do that. But so far, I’ve found the approach works better in theory than in practice. Mainly because I’ve never been able to put on the green in a nice way. What works wonderfully, however, is this trick I copied from Beauty TikToker Mikayla Nogueira.

Here’s how it works:
Grab a concealer with good coverage in your skin tone. Ideally a thick one from a tub, such as the Soft Matte Complete Concealer from Nars. Pour some onto a flat brush and dab it onto the areas you want to cover with the wide end. No blending, just apply it. Leave these «stains» to dry for five to ten minutes. I know, it takes some patience. Then apply your foundation over it as usual. The dried concealer retains its covering power and acts as a kind of pimple plaster.

By the way, Mikayla goes one step further in her recommendation. Unlike me, she applies her concealer straight after cleansing her face. In other words, without using a skincare product first. Contrary to all logic, she only uses it after the concealer dots have dried. She prefers water-based skincare, ensuring that the covered areas remain concealed. Oily products, on the other hand, will dissolve the concealer from your skin.

Sometimes it’s the details that make or break a hairstyle or make-up look. In my Blazing Beauty Tips series, I share useful techniques with you that I’ve either learned through my own experience or copied from the pros.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
