Aargau is the e-scooter centre of Switzerland

Sales figures from Galaxus and Digitec reveal that e-scooters are gaining popularity in Switzerland this year too. Most e-scooters per capita go to Wohlen, in the flat and densely populated canton of Aargau.

In the flat, densely populated Central Plateau in particular, e-scooters often replace cars or buses – for example, for the journey to the station or a quick shopping trip. Looking at the sales figures by postcode, the canton of Aargau clearly dominates the top spot. Seven of the ten towns with the most scooter sales are in Aargau. Even in the top 30, fifty per cent belong to the same canton. Wohlen AG leads the ranking with 38 e-scooters purchased from Digitec Galaxus per 1,000 inhabitants – followed by the two Aargau towns of Anglikon (32.8) and Villmergen (29.9). Only in fourth place comes a town from another canton: Morbio Inferiore in the canton of Ticino.

At the other end of the scale are towns such as Roggwil (BE), Trubschachen (BE) and Entlebuch (LU). You can find out where your town is in the ranking using the search function in the graphic.

«E-scooters are no longer a hype, but an integral part of everyday urban life – even outside big cities,» says Lara Diener, Category Business Manager at Galaxus responsible for the scooter range. «We see that people are increasingly opting for micromobility, even in smaller communities.»

Who takes the handlebars – and who stays put

E-scooters are becoming increasingly popular – with no end in sight. In the months from January to May 2025, sales of these vehicles increased by 15 per cent compared to the same period last year. 2025 has seen a mid four-digit number of scooters sold. Compared to 2021, the online retailer’s selling 50 per cent more battery-powered scooters this year.

And under-24s are particularly keen on them. In 2021, they made seven per cent of all purchases, compared to eleven per cent this year. Coincidentally, 25 to 34-year-olds are buying e-scooters slightly less frequently than before.

For years, purchasing behaviour among men and women has been consistent – men account for three out of four e-scooter sales. The prices of electric scooters have risen slightly in the meantime. In 2020 you’d pay 456 francs and in 2023, 480 francs. This year, customers seem to be increasingly opting for cheaper models with the average costing just 423 francs. «Thanks to the fierce competition between manufacturers, models are constantly updating – and prices are falling at the same time. That makes customers happy,» says Lara.

Xiaomi wins the race

As of July 2025, Digitec and Galaxus have 248 different e-scooters in their range. A total 33 of these come from smartphone giant Xiaomi. These models have been the undisputed leaders in the sales charts for years. Only the Segway-Ninebot e-scooter comes close to Xiaomi.

Swiss company Micro, based in Küsnacht ZH (5.84 e-scooters per 1000 inhabitants) has a market share of one per cent – far behind. SoFlow from St Gallen is doing better (10.12 e-scooters for every 1000 inhabitants). For some time, the company from eastern Switzerland even held a market share of 16 per cent – in 2025, this figure is back down to seven per cent.

But what’s the situation where you live? Do you live in an e-scooter stronghold or more of a latecomer village?

As a Multimedia Producer, preparing multimedia content and knowing about cutting-edge technology is my business. My main focus at digitec is producing videos. I can’t wait to try out new products such as cameras, drones or smartphones as soon as they’re launched. This is where being at the source comes in rather handy. When I’m not working, I’m probably skiing, biking or hiking – the mountains are my place to be.
