A child seat fails the TCS test

The TCS regularly scrutinises child car seats. In the current test, almost all models received the rating "highly recommended" or "recommended". The experts only advise against one child seat.
Mums and dads only want the best and, above all, the safest for their children in all areas. The latter is particularly important in the car, which is why the requirements for child seats are especially high. The selection is giant with over 2700 models in our shop alone. Parents can sometimes lose track of which seat is the right one for their child. The "Touring Club Switzerland" promises a remedy with its child seat test.

And the winner is...
For the current child seat test, the TCS tested and evaluated 20 models. Encouragingly, almost all child seats passed the test. Eight models are "recommended" according to TCS, eleven others even receive the rating "highly recommended". The manufacturer "Joie" came out on top: One of its model combinations achieved the best overall result.
Failed because of "mothballs"
Now for the downer: "Besafe" does not receive a recommendation for its child car seat "iZi Twist M". The only "not recommended" from the TCS is not due to shortcomings in the areas of safety and operation/ergonomics, where the model performs well to very well. Instead, the "Besafe" child seat failed the test for harmful substances. Its cover is contaminated with the chemical naphthalene. The toxic substance, which used to be contained in mothballs, is now considered carcinogenic.

Parents' guide and past test results
New or modified models of child car seats are constantly coming onto the market. This can be due to new regulations or stricter laws, for example. The TCS reacts to the mass of new products by carrying out its child seat test twice a year. The criteria assessed are safety, handling/ergonomics and pollutant content. The TCS selects the test models together with participating automobile clubs and consumer protection organisations.
