9 things that make my travels more enjoyable

You can't foresee everything when travelling. But there are a few things you can plan for that will certainly make it a lot better.

Over the years, I have found my personal must-haves for different journeys. These include things that may be completely unimportant to you, but bring me joy or comfort every time I travel
.

For a flight

I only notice the loud music in a club or the poor acoustics in a restaurant now that I'm approaching thirty. I feel the same way about flights. I never used to hear how loud it gets when I'm travelling. Now I've found a solution and feel better after every flight: noise cancelling. With headphones that reduce noise and sleep goggles, I can switch off even if my seat neighbours leave their sun visors open during the day.

As filled drinking bottles in hand luggage have to be thrown away at security, I always take an empty insulated bottle with me. I can reuse them later at drinking water dispensers at airports or when I arrive at my destination. This saves me having to buy overpriced drinks at the airport.

Because of the security checks, I have to pull out my ID and boarding pass several times, which I usually have on my mobile. That's why I also carry a belly bag when travelling by plane, so I don't have to rummage around for everything in my handbag or rucksack.

Whether I'm travelling in the luggage area of trains or on the conveyor belt at the airport at my destination - with all the black suitcases out there, my brightly coloured tag helps me to find my model. I used to have a pendant of the same colour, which looked more elegant but got lost in the crowd.

For the accommodation

Sleeping masks are not only a must for me when travelling, but also when I arrive at my destination. Because you never know if there will be curtains on site. Maybe you're one of those people who don't mind the brightness when sleeping. But I prefer to play it safe so that I don't wake up earlier than I'd like on holiday.

There is often a lack of music systems in holiday homes or hotels. That's why I take my own portable speaker with me.

On the beach

An inflatable cushion makes travelling and sunbathing more comfortable. It saves space, is easy to clean and is therefore particularly useful on sandy beaches.

In addition to a handbag for going out, I always take a waterproof toiletry bag and a cotton shopper for the beach. Valuables can be stored in the toiletry bag and are protected from the wet. Unlike a handbag, the bag can get dirty and sandy and stay in your accommodation.

There are few (inexpensive) accommodations that provide you with enough towels. That's why I reach for my own beach towel and do without the odd pair of trousers in my suitcase. Here, too, a special design helps me to find my place more easily and feel comfortable. Because there's nothing like the smell of home in a foreign country.
