5 trending candle designs that will brighten up your life
From ombre to sculptural, candles are more decorative than ever. That’s why it’s getting harder and harder to light them.
If you’re in the mood for some candles, there’s nothing wrong with tea lights from a certain beloved Swedish furniture store. But if your flair for design means you crave more than elegant simplicity, you are clearly one of the many who regard candles as home accessories in their own right. Even if they never see a match. Because current designs are so exquisite, they’re making it hard for me (and probably you) to sit back and watch them melt away.
1. Off the beaten design
The batik pattern is to fashion, what the ombre look is to candles. It adds depth to the surface and turns even a plain candle into an eye-catcher. In most cases, the colour gradient is created by hand using the dip dye technique. It can turn any wax object into a unique wax wonder. Befittingly, these candles are not exactly cheap.

2. A bit of sculpting
The hype about sculptural candles that started two years ago is still going strong. Curvy designs and shapes from nature are particularly in demand at the moment. Perhaps because they fit in so well with the surrounding decor. Or, because it’s just so much more enthralling watching a bubble or torso wax figure burn than your classic taper candle.
3. A dash of neon
From the yellow of a highlighter to the orange of a warning sign, neon colours are a popular choice in interior design. Although neon has certainly studded the fashion world from time to time, its comebacks never last too long; possibly because even with those styling tricks, it’s hard to pull off the look without giving the impression that you’ve come straight out of an 80s aerobics class. Luckily, incorporating neon into your interior design is much less of a challenge. You just need the right amount. With a single candle, you can bring new life to a drab table decoration, making it shine (even without lighting it).

4. A twisted affair
The spiral-shaped taper candle, which took over the entire Instagram world two years ago, is also still trending strong. This year, monochrome, vibrant, and even gradient versions are keeping heads turning. These curvy candles can give any interior a new feel – even those defined by right angles aren’t hopeless. Hello variety, bye-bye lighter.
5. Double, triple style
The expression «more is more» applies to candles, too. Many now have two or even three wicks instead of just one. This means more light in any room, and also that you’ll have to replenish your candle supply more often, which serves as a great excuse for some extra shopping. Because the more wicks there are, the faster those babies burn.
