What happened when we cooked a four-course meal with a baby food maker
by Sina Alpiger
When the thermometer climbs to over 25° C, the question "What should I cook today?" becomes all the more difficult. You rarely feel very hungry on hot days and the desire to prepare elaborate dishes is usually limited.
To ensure that your body, and especially your baby's, is optimally supplied with healthy nutrients despite hot temperatures and low hunger levels, it is all the more important to choose the right food during this time. Otherwise, this can have a negative impact on everyone's mood.
So here are my three suggestions for easy and easily digestible recipes. They are not heavy, contain lots of vitamins and minerals and ensure a long-lasting feeling of satiety. You can also prepare the recipes quickly and easily using a baby food cooker.
My absolute favourite of the three recipes. Because of its sweetness, the cream could easily pass as a dessert. Mixed with a little yoghurt and topped with granola and chia seeds, it also promises a successful and energising start to the day. Potassium and magnesium from bananas are hugely important sources of minerals for our muscle and nerve functions. They also contain plenty of phosphorus, iron and zinc and regulate digestion in a natural way. Blueberries contain more vitamin E than almost any other fruit and therefore support the protective function of our skin.
Ingredients:
Preparation:
Mash all the ingredients together in a baby food processor until a creamy mixture is formed.
Sounds a bit special at first and at first I was also rather sceptical about this combination. Fortunately, I decided to try it and was extremely pleasantly surprised by the result. The aromatic, summery freshness of the mint combined with the sweetness of the apple is excellent. The nutrients contained in the ingredients are even more in favour of trying this porridge. The menthol in the peppermint cools from the inside, apples boast over 30 minerals and trace elements and the courgette provides the necessary fibre.
Ingredients:
Preparation:
Rough the courgettes and steam in the baby food cooker for approx. 10 minutes. Then leave to cool completely and puree together with the mint. Chop the apple with a grater and mix with the courgette and mint puree.
The nutty, slightly sweet flavour of the sweet potato complements the fresh flavour of the carrot perfectly. The ginger provides the unmistakable spicy flavour. Incidentally, no vegetable contains more beta-carotene than the sweet potato. As carrots don't do badly in this respect either, this mixture is a real vitamin A bomb.
Ingredients:
Preparation:
Prepare all the ingredients. Cut the sweet potato and carrots into approx. 1 cm pieces and steam everything together in the baby food cooker. Cook for 15 minutes and then blend with a little water. This puree is also great as a substitute side dish for mashed potatoes or simply with a salad. You can season your portion with a little salt and pepper and add chilli, ground cumin or curry to taste.
It can always happen that your baby's appetite is limited or you have cooked too much porridge. This is not a problem, as you can freeze the remaining portions and reheat them within minutes using the baby food cooker. Portion-sized containers are particularly suitable for this. You can also feed your baby with home-prepared food on the go. You can therefore do without jarred food and the additives it contains.
Dreamily cycling through fields with my old wife Meier, searching dusty brocken houses for treasures, pushing my body to its limits in kick boxing, doing good for my soul while drinking coffee with my loved ones, feeling the freedom on the mountain as well as when travelling and diving into unknown worlds while reading - all this fills my life. But my greatest passion is fiddling around with special food creations.
