Adidas Adilette

The Süddeutsche newspaper affectionately called them "the chav's shoes without guilt". When Adi Dassler invented the Adilette in 1963, he did so for a reason. He owed the athletes a favour, as they wanted a shoe for the changing room that they could also wear in the shower. As a result, Dassler created the bathing slipper made of blue rubber with a pre-moulded footbed and lined strap. Suction cups on the sides provided the necessary grip and, of course, the three white stripes. At the time, Dassler could not have imagined that the Adidas slipper would so quickly leave the sacred spaces of the Olympians and conquer the saunas of ordinary people. That it would make it from there to the campsites and streets of small German towns and finally to the pavement in front of the Kohlhaus pub in Fulda. The Adilette merged with Germans and ruined their reputation. It made sure that the neighbours still believe they are on permanent holiday and only move from the couch to reach for the chips.
