Producer:
Astoria was founded in 1987 by a traditional winemaking family with a strong commitment to quality. The company owns forty hectares of land in one of the most beautiful wine regions in Italy, in the heart of the DOCG zone Conegliano - Valdobbiadene. The estate is known for its Prosecco and is well established locally. Astoria wines can be found in many restaurants and wine bars. "Tenuta Val de Brun" is the name of the winery where all Astoria wines are pressed, located in the small town of Refrontolo.
Region:
Prosecco was once the name of a grape variety pressed by winemakers across Italy. Since 2009, the Prosecco grape has officially been referred to as "Glera," and the term Prosecco is a protected designation of origin. This means that only wines from specific regions can be called Prosecco. There are two quality levels: D.O.C. (Denominazione di Origine Controllata), which comes from nine areas in the northern Italian regions of Veneto and Friuli, and D.O.C.G. (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita), which comes from the historical core area of Prosecco around the towns of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene in the Venetian hinterland.
Grape Variety:
100% Glera
Production:
The grapes are hand-harvested in September and October. The primary fermentation takes place in steel tanks at around 18 to 19 degrees Celsius with selected yeasts. After a month on the lees, the wine is clarified and transferred for sparkling wine production, where it rests again on noble yeasts for about 30 days. After bottling, it remains in the bottle for several weeks.
Tasting Notes:
Elegant, fruity, and typical on the nose; pleasant on the palate with a nice acidity and strong character.
Drinkability:
Prosecco Spumante is always released ready to drink. It should be enjoyed young, fresh, and well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees Celsius.
